Accommodation for the first pair of Komodo Dragons ever to be housed at London Zoo.

Reason for Green Roof

Planning requirement as the development is overlooked by Regents Park, and as part of the Zoo’s Sustainability policy.

18mm plywood deck.

Loose laid Sarnavap 2000 polyethylene vapour control layer.

SarnaTherm EPS-E CFC and HCFC Extruded polystyrene thermal insulation board from Kingspan Insulation Ltd.

Sarnafil G476-20TEX single ply membrane loose laid with all overlaps hot air welded.  FLL approved for use without an additional root barrier.

Sarnafil AquaDrain 20mm recycled polyethylene drainage and protection board.

65mm to 150mm of growing medium consisting of recycled crushed brick and graded earth from site in a mix of either 80% brick to 20% earth of 80% earth to 20% brick.

Planting of a variety of natural plants by the Curator of Plants at ZSL.

Comments

The design is based on design principals developed in Switzerland for biodiversity and adapted to the London situation by Livingroofs.org and is a study roof in Green roofs and biodiversity research project - see phd research.
