Introduction to Case Studies

Although they are not a mainstream roofing solution there are a number of high profile green roof schemes in the UK.

Alumasc–Exteriors, Bauder and Sarnfil UK are the leading green roof manufacturers in the UK and all adhere to the high quality German standards set by the independent German Landscape Research Society. Blackdown Horticulture is one of the leading green roof plant nurseries and suppliers in the UK.

The case studies section also include an overview of a number of roofs in Switzerland. Livngroofs.org along with Presence Swiss, Sarnafil UK and University of Wadensvil took 12 leading architects and architectural journalists on a tour of green roofs in Switzerland and now runs regular tours open to interested individuals (see events).

Livingroofs.org works closely with Greenroofs.com, the international greenroof industry's resource and online information portal. Greenroofs.com has released The Greenroof Projects Database and is issuing an international call to submit case studies.  Serving as the worldwide clearing house for the greenroof movement at the individual, community, and market levels, we do not represent any group or company and embrace an open source philosophy of information sharing. Our goal is to compile a comprehensive body of global greenroof projects searchable by many fields including type, date, geographic location, designer/manufacturer and more.

Public and private benefits to an information service of this magnitude include learning from one another, promotion of the industry and networking, and having a central repository of greenroof project profiles all in one place.  We invite individuals, students, researchers, governments, organizations, companies and manufacturers/suppliers to submit your greenroof projects!
