The Oglander Trust

Architect

Rainey/Petrie/Johns

Type of Development

Brading Roman Villa is a historical attraction that houses remains of Roman mosaics, all of which had to be protected and covered to remain in situ during works

Reason for Green Roof

An effortless blend into the rural countryside was part of the brief.  Stabilising the internal temperature was essential in order to mitigate the summer high temperatures which tend to cook-up and dry the remains of the Roman mosaics housed beneath, and conversely in winter to prevent the frost, both of which damage the historic relics.

Type of Roof

Bauder Intensive Green Roof System.

Size of Green Roof

1700m2

Build up of Roof

Waterproofing Build Up
Bauder VB4-Expal Vapour Barrier, 4mm thick, featuring an expandable aluminium lining and utilising SBS modified elastomeric bitumen giving total vapour impermeability and providing initial waterproofing integrity during the system’s installation.

Bauder Eurotherm insulation, rigid CFC and HCFC free thermal insulation.

Bauder Underlayer, 5mm thick, highly modified with SBS elastomeric bitumen and reinforced with a very high tensile polyester carrier.

Bauder Capping Plant-E, 5mm thick, bituminous root resistant capping sheet containing a specially formulated chemical root inhibitor.
